Health Questions and Answershealth .?Q) what watch shall i buy my wife for christmas . or should i buy her something else?????
A) A wristwatch/Health and Religion...?Q) A statementment by Prof Assiz Sheikh (primary health care) said that muslims had the poorest health profile of any religious/racial group in the UK, mainly with reference to diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
His argument is that the NHS should go further in providing for the particular needs of this group such as providing access to prayer facilities or providing female doctors and anciliary staff for muslim women and that religious circumcision should be available across the NHS.
How far can or should the NHS be prepared to go to meet the needs of particular groups as far as their religious customs and practices go? And should these groups be prepared to 'accomadate' in order that they can more effectively access health care? (ps I would not welcome comments like 'who cares?' or 'serves them right' or other such uninformed abuse!
A) I think that's got less to do with religion and more to do with the fact that most Muslims in the UK are poor immigrants. Here in the US, Mexican immigrants have the poorest health, and they're predominantly Catholic, but I doubt that Catholicism is making them ill...?
I think that the NHS should focus on helping all lower income groups, regardless of religion. But that's just my opinion. :)
Edit: I'm also not sure how NHS-funded "prayer facilities" will help cure heart disease, which makes me think that the good doctor may be a tad biased here.Health Drinks?Q) Hi guys,
I need to find a list of all Health Shops (Eg, Holland & Barrett) in the UK that sell Health Drinks. Not isotonic sports drinks but Health ones that claim to cure ailments or keep joints healthy, things like that. Thanks loads. JT :)

A) Please clarify. It is very hard to follow the grammar and spelling.Does heriditary health problems have no solutions?Q) My fathersuffered from cerebral atrophy and had very restricted movements, mostly was bed ridden until his last at 66yrs.We were told that his father too died facing similar problems at 58yrs of age, with limited knowledge of medicine during those days.My elder sister, the eldest of the three of us who is 39yrs of age now has started feeling all the symptoms similar to that faced by my father. She wobbles, cannot walk straight, and falls down which is more like sudden jerks. What troubles us is that her condition should not get worse. She is married to our first cousin from dad's side and we are worried about the health of her two boys aged 19 and 17yrs.Infact we are all worried about the future health conditions of our children. My sister, brother and self have two kids each.To add up to our worries is our uncle, fathers younger brother who is also facing similar health problems. The doctors told my sister that the problem being heriditary, there is no medication. Please help.
A) Early detection is the answer.
Speak with your doctor about when is a good time to start testing ?Why do health professionals say 'You shouldn't be made to feel guilty if you bottlefeed'?Q) If you smoke or drink while pregnant, you should feel guilty, because this can affect your baby's health.
But it is also well known that bottlefeeding affects your babys health too, increase of infections and diseases, no antibodies from the mother, and lower cognitive and sensory development COMPARED to breastfeeding. These are facts shown by scientific studies and yet health professionals say women shouldn't be made to feel guilty for choosing ot to breastfeed. Why not?
Choosing not to breastfeed is choosing to give your baby second best. Why is that ok? There really shouldn't be a choice it should be breastfeed and if you are phsyically incapable to do so then you can have formula prescribed.
Why is it so easy for mothers to just say whatever, It doesnt matter? Actually the same goes for those mums who choose to sit in mcdonalds and buy their kids sweets and artificial flavoured drinks and food. Why would people want to do this to their children?
Ok I can see that I'm going to get a lot of answers just saying 'bottled feeding mothers shouldnt be made to feel ashamed' WITHOUT giving a reason.
I'm asking why shouldn't they?
To mummy_to_liam: Of course I have a child and have breastfed or how would I have any right to ask this question? That is a stupid thing to assume.
A) I saw your later question apologising for your rant ;-)
Now, having put in a good few hours working on a postnatal ward, plus having breastfed both my kids for 18 months each, I have the following observations to offer.
If a woman really doesn't want to breastfeed, it's pretty pointless to a) try and make her do it or b) make her feel guilty. Don't forget that feeding isn't the only thing which affects a baby's wellbeing. Having a miserable mum doesn't do much for infant development either! Also, many new mothers want to breastfeed but don't get the right help and support. They already feel guilty enough, and don't need anyone else making it worse.
However, I do believe that healthcare professionals have a duty to make women aware of the superior benefits of breastfeeding. Otherwise, the woman is not making a fully informed choice. Bottlefeeding is *not* just as a good as breastfeeding. Formulas are a lot better these days, but they are never going to be as good as breastmilk.
Midwives who don't fully support breastfeeding women because bottlefeeding was "good enough for them" really get my goat. It's not about their choices, it's about their client.Definitions of Health?Q) What is health?
Social Model of health?
Medical Model of health?
Gimme your opinions...!!
A) The medical model says that "health" is the absence of illness.
I've not heard of a definition of the social model, but I would suspect that it has something to do with developing and maintaining positive relationships.
My definition would be along the lines of, "The optimal functioning and integration of physical, mental, and social systems." That definition goes beyond merely NOT being sick.Is British health care equal for everyone or is the service quality received determined by one's social class?Q) I would like responses of both Pro and Con, as this topic is debatable. Does everyone in the UK have equal access to a GP, NHS, emergency treatments etc or is social class still a major determinant of health and morality in Britain?
Some believe that problems like infant morality rates, levels of dental health, length of life, cause of death and incidence of illness are all determined by social class.
While others believe everything is equal. And that differences in health are due to one's generic inheritance and individual lifestyle choices.
Thoughts?
A) You have done pretty well from the responses. And my experience would tally with what they are saying.
One point is there seems to be a lot of whining [begrudgery is the equivelant Irish term and I am of the green variety] about private health insurance. I have PHI because I can afford it. However I drive an eight-year-old car. A lot of feckless whingers here on the NHS and without PHI are driving 06 cars and living in relative squalor.
UK is the fourth richest country on earth and well over 60% of the population could afford to pay for PHI but they prefer to blow it on blingWhat is the difference between Health Insurance and Health care Program?Q) Is it OK to have just the health care program and not have the Health Insurance Plan? I can get Health care program for half the monthly premium as compared to the Health Insurance Plan. Please advise? Is it advisable?
A) A "health care program" is usually a maintenance program - it doesn't usually cover "major medical" issues, such as you coming down with cancer. But you'll have to read the fine print on the program itself, to see what is and is not covered. THEN you have to figure out which doctors work in the program, and how long/hard it is to get in to see them.Health Care Professionals....?Q) What do you work as in health care?

this was my answer for another persons question that was alot like yours. i think these are some really great points.health????Q) how long can a 13 year old live wit a puntured lung? how do they cure it?
A) Usually a punctured lung also involves collapse of the lung. It causes a great deal of shortness of breath. The child needs to go to the hospital and have a chest tube inserted in which to re-inflate the lung and allow it to heal.health!!!!?Q) My Doctor prescribed cymbalta for me and I would like to know more about it from other people that have taken it.
A) i've been on cymbalta for a little over a year now. i was prescribed it due to depression and mood disorders cause by an illness. i can't say i've experienced any side effects. in fact as far as i'm concerned the drug does its job and can even fix problems it wasn't prescribed to fix (like pain and sleep). it worked for me.health????????????????Q) ok. im 12, and my boobs have like all these little pimples on them now !!! its GROSS !! ! ! please, wat is it?
A) Clean around the area with an ati-septic solution and change your bra regularly.
Do not squeeze these bumps. They are likely normal. They are probably secreting sebum (oil) from glands of the nipple/areola skin. You will infect them if you squeeze them. If they become reddened or painful, you should have them checked for infection.
