internet?????

Q) im with bt for my internet supplier, im thinking of changing to someone else...if i do this can i still keep my bt internet email address

A) Generally with isp provided email there is an element of security as they can see you attached to your own line. If you use an smtp client like Outlook Express they may well refuse to accept your emails this way when you change. Also many isps include the email only as part of your broadband contract.

Internet!!!?

Q) Where can i get cheap wireless internet? Do i have to have a landline?? Either that or a tv, internet, landline package. (uk)

A) If you live in the middle of a city and you are accessed by wireless then you could get a cheap wireless package but I doubt that would happen.... yeah you need to be wired

internet!!!?

Q) my internet provider said i can get up to 8mb on my box but my phonelines can only pass through 1mb how can i make it faster to 8mb

A) you cant. the maximum speed of internet depends on what the phone line can handle. do you live in a village? i do and im stuck with 2mb.

internet?????

Q) I keep getting Internet 7 thrown at me has anyone got it if so any problems with it heres thanking you for any replies.

A) IE7 introduces tabbed browsing and antiphishing but beyond that there's not much to shout about; seems to be stable but they've changed the layout a little. The menu bar (File, Edit, View etc) is no longer displayed by default and it is no longer at the top of the browser. Press F10 to bring up the menu; ESC to get rid of it. Go to View>Toolbars and tick menu bar if you want it displayed permanently. Here's a screenshot if you still have the will to live... http://www.pixfolder.com/images/5775.jpg

Internet Explorer Missing ???

Q) I've downloaded Internet Explorer 7, which can now be seen in "Add/Remove Program" list, but for some rather bizarre reason, it's NOT appearing on my Start Menu & Desktop. This happened earlier, so I uninstalled it, thinking reinstalling will ASK me if I want it on my "start menu" along with on "desktop" but I didn't come across an option that actually ASKS me so. I then located the "iexplorer.exe" icon in Internet Explorer folder within the Program Files & then copied it pasted it on "Desktop" along with in the "start menu" but when I click on it, it DOES NOT open the Internet Explorer browser, which is yet a mystery, I'm afraid. However, when I click on "iexplorer.exe" icon in the Internet Explorer folder in the Program Files, it DOES open the Internet Explorer browser. Surely, the last thing I'd want to do is to open an Internet Explorer this rather lengthy way (going to Program files & then Internet Explorer & then double-click on "iexplorer.exe" icon). Can anyone help?

A) You don't need all kinds of extra programs to get this job done. And you don't need to make COPIES of links, either. Here's how to achieve your desired results PROPERLY! #1. Right click on an empty space on your Desktop. Click Properties (yes, I forgot that ...blushing! THX comptech) Pick the "Desktop" tab at the top of the box that comes up. At the bottom of that box click "Customize Desktop". Make sure that there is a checkmark in the box next to "Internet Explorer" at the top of the box that comes up next. Click on OK to close both boxes. You now should have a big round E on your desktop. You can drag and drop it anywhere you want. #2. Go to your Start Menu. Do the same thing there...Right Click in an UNused area and then "Properties" to bring up the menu box. Click "Customize" in the box when it comes up. Put a check mark next to "Internet" making sure it says "Internet Explorer" in the dropdown list next to it. Click OK and then Apply. You now should have that big round E in your Startup List.

internet problem?

Q) Dear Sir, In our building 7 people use internet with wireless system , but now we are having serious problem to make it work. When we are switching internet power on it works for about 10 min ( more or less) then even if we have internet signal on our computers there are no flashing lights working on router netgear ( normaly there are 2 lights flashing on the router netgear ,internet and wireless) so we switch off and on the router power and the 2 lights on router netgear "internet and wireless" are starting to work again.the next 5-10min stop again and cut off internet. Do you know what is the problem ?. Thanks & Best regards Hamid

A) It could be the router, try doing a hard reset on it with the reset button. If that still does not work, take your cable/dsl modem to just one pc and see if it stays connected or still drops...could be an isp problem.

A) Try a hard boot of the modem.... most of the times this should fix the problem.... You can do this most often than not by inserting a pin or something at the back of the modem... look for a small hole at the back where you can insert the pin... :-) Failing the above it could b a faulty modem ... call up helpdesk they would know of known issues.. and its normally free as well

Internet connection?

Q) Hello, I was wondering if anyone could please help me? I have a Wireless G+ Router, Wireless G+ Notebook Card, Wireless G+ USB Adapter. The problem is that the whenever anyone goes onto the laptop, the Internet works and is connected. Now when we go onto the PC however the Internet does not come up and it is disconnected. I have checked everything to do with the connection, and everything seems fine. Now when I went onto the Windows Connection Diagnostic problem thing is comes up with that the Internet connection Belkin is found, but it is disconnected. In my household we really need the Internet on both computers, because three of us are studying and therefore need the Internet. Please could someone help me! Thanks

A) It shouldn't be because you are using the Internet on the laptop that it is not working on the computer. I have two laptops and a computer sharing the same Internet connection and they all work fine. Try contacting whichever company you are with for the Internet and asking them what the problem might be. Or find out if it is something to do with your computer that just doesn't recognise the connection. On one of the laptops in my house it did this and we had to open up the connection info and re-scan the connection and then re-connect.

internet grooming?

Q) i'm doing a research project into children using the internet and the risks of internet grooming. i was just wondering if anyone could help me think of a criminological theory as to the relationship between children using the internet and the risks of internet grooming and whether they have had any experience of this and why they still continue to use the internet despite these risks.

A) I'm not sure all victims of grooming are ever aware they they were being groomed. Interestingly I recently went to a colleagues presentation of her research into the offending pathways of people who use the internet to view child pornography. The last bit of your question about why they still continue to use the internet - isn't that a bit like asking why do women who were raped on the way home still go out? The internet is an increasingly popular way of communicating with the world, finding out things and is often required by schools for example. I think it would be difficult for some children not to use the internet.

Does Internet Explorer 7 prevent BT Yahoo! Broadband from working?

Q) A few weeks ago we installed IE7 on our computer with an ethernet connection, and a few days later the internet stopped working for that computer. Later we installed IE7 on the computer with a USB connection (the internet was working fine on that), and after a few minutes the internet stopped working on that completely as well. The router is working perfectly, both computers are connected to broadband, but nothing using the internet works. BT told us that IE7 could corrupt the drivers and we were told to uninstall IE7 and reinstall the drivers, but so far the problem remains, and we have not been able to use broadband to access the internet for a week now (I'm using a dial up connection here). Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, how is it possible to fix it? Thank you for your suggestions, but that does not really answer my question. Although it does seem that IE7 caused the problem, removing it doesn't fix the problem and at the moment no programs that use the internet are working with broadband. Does anyone know how to fix this?

A) Yeah I work at GeekSquad we get calls all day long about the problems associated w/ IE7. I always suggest Firefox, really just the same company as IE different name, still created by same co. Free download, will take a long time to download via dial up

internet????

Q) hi, i have WRT54g router from linksys, i am using this router for my motel business, so i can provide free wireless internet to my guest. is it possible to keep records of computers who use internet through my network, so i don't get in trouble for stuff they do illegal on my network. i want information like what time they log on, date, ip address, etc

A) You may want to get an more "industral" router. The router you have is for more of a home based wireless system and the signal may only go a couple hundred feet. You can always ask Linksys, they should help better than Yahoo answers.

internet?/?

Q) is there any internet service for $20.00 a month or less that requires no telephone connection?I don't need many hours

A) No telephone connection? Do you mean wireless? I think it is free, that is if you are in Singapore. There, it is free for 2 years. So as long you have a laptop, you can just go anywhere, especially near fast food places and surf all you want, 24*7. What is the catch? I have no idea. I suspect the ISP is trying to make us get used to the fast speed and then when we are hooked, they will set a price, and then we will have no choice but to agree to it else our life will get messed up. Who knows. But anyway, you need a wireless modem and a ISP offering discount Internet service. Good Luck.

iNTERNET!!!!!?

Q) I have directv....they have internet! Do i need a phone line to subscibe?

A) no

Internet?!?!?

Q) I have DSL conection, and I need to connect second computer on the net. I have already bought LPT and connected the second comp to first one. The thing is that the two comps cant see eachother on the LPT. I need full detail how to conect the computer 2 computer on LPT and on the internet. If some1 can help me do so. I need that information ASP. Tnx. ;) Let me remind ya all that this is Pear 2 Pear connection...

A) If your question is how to just get the second computer on the net, then the easiest way is to get a wireless router. You connect the first computer from dsl modem to router then to computer. The second computer should have a wireless network card to pick up the wireless signal from the wireless router. Then you can use the second computer from anywhere in the house without having to be connected to the first computer to get internet.

A) Go to "start".."run"..type in msconfig then click on "startup"..uncheck anything slowing your system down then click on "Services" and do the same...then you'll have to reboot...when system reboots it will prompt you about the changes you made...just check the box on the bottom left side saying..."don't show this message again" That should solve your problem...Good luck
